Feel free to check out these links to my favorite sites. Go ahead. It's okay. Because I know you'll be back.

People often ask me, "Hey, Vonetta--how does one get started as a freelance writer?" So I've posted links to these great Web resources for writers. They've helped me--hopefully they'll help you, as well.

About.com's Freelance Writers site: Pretty self-explanatory--the site for freelancers. Features plenty of articles on getting started and handling your business, forums, job boards and advice in various areas of freelance writing.

MediaBistro.com: Anybody who's in the know knows about this site. Up-to-the-minute journalism news and job postings, publishing events, a lively bulletin board and info on MediaBistro's health insurance package.

Writing-World.com: I stumbled upon this site, edited by veteran writer Moira Allen--let me tell you, this chick knows her stuff! Full of writers' tips--any question you have about freelancing, you'll probably find an answer to it here.

PopandPolitics.com: The website of journalist and author Farai Chideya. This sister is definitely on point with her insightful articles on various things pop culture and politics (but of course).

Hotjobs.com: If you're trying to pay the bills a bit more thoroughly and/or satisfy your inner workaholic, this site can help you land that nice, cushy gig.

General Links:

KendraRoss.com: This fierce Brooklyn songstress is definitely one to watch--kick-ass pipes and all.

Diva Delight: A tribute to divas everywhere, especially those contributing to the funkiness of soulful dance music--brought to you by diva deluxe herself, Carmen Mitchell (aka Princess Tamtam).

DuEwa Creates: The website of a very talented, conscious sister and fellow writer. Browse and enjoy.

Kinksrus.com: Created by a fellow "nappy 'n happy" Connecticut sister, this site has tons of natural hair resources, hot product picks, message boards and cute anecdotes about breaking free from the grip of lye. Kinda like a 12-step program for those weaning themselves from processed hair.

AfroCuba Web: Comprehensive site about Cuba’s African roots, cultures and people.

Africana.com: Everything about the African Diaspora within one click--news, channels, etc.

Social Step: Events listings for major U.S. cities, and more. If you dug “The Anti-Homebody,” you’ll want to check out this site, too.

DivineCipher.com: Cultural news, urban issues, cool links.

Haute-Zine: Online beauty, fashion and entertainment never looked this fly. And it probably never will.

The Boondocks: The official site of Aaron McGruder's funny-as-hell, tell-it-like-it-is comic strip. The Family Circus it ain't! And that's why we're feeling it so.

Davey D's Homepage: Regarding hip-hop and politics, this is one of the most influential sites out there.
